Bayern Munich will be due a flurry of activity in the transfer market in the upcoming summer window.
With the Bavarian giants out of the Champions League (following a 4-3 aggregate defeat to Inter Milan), questions will be asked about Max Eberl’s decision-making at the end of the season.
Christian Falk has already made clear that even the return of the Bundesliga title to Säbener Straße won’t be enough to exclude the 51-year-old from review.
In the meantime, Bayern have to sober up to the reality that they’ll need to make judicious cuts to the wage bill this summer.
Which Bayern players aren’t safe?

Bayern have made it their mission to return to Europe’s top four, and they believe they can lay the foundations for this at the end of the season.
To that end, BILD report that only nine players in the squad are considered “untouchable” ahead of the next transfer window.
Goalkeepers
Jonas Urbig has been guaranteed playing time for the 2025/26 season. This comes after having filled in for first-choice shotstopper Manuel Neuer on 11 occasions this term.

Manuel Neuer | Daniel Peretz |
Jonas Urbig | Sven Ulreich |
Defenders
Dayot Upamecano would have been considered part of an “untouchable 10”.
However, the Frenchman’s ongoing contract talks – still yet to conclude due in no small part to the centre-back’s demands – have cast some doubt over his future.
To be clear, Bayern want to keep the former RB Leipzig star, but they won’t sanction a contract agreement that sees them overpay in the process.

Josip Stanisic | Dayot Upamecano |
Alphonso Davies | Kim Min-jae |

Midfielders
Leon Goretzka wants to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena beyond 2025.
That said, Manchester United’s interest in the German international remains, and a recent change in agency wouldn’t prove prohibitive to a Premier League switch.
Positive performances in 2024/25, however, could very well encourage Bayern’s decision-makers to keep hold of the 30-year-old.
The same can’t necessarily be said for Joao Palhinha, who has been rarely relied on (932 minutes this season) under Vincent Kompany.

Jamal Musiala | Leon Goretzka |
Alexsandar Pavlovic | Joao Palhinha |
Joshua Kimmich | Gabriel Vidovic |
Konrad Laimer |
Attackers
Max Eberl is understood to be in talks with Leroy Sane over a contract extension.
There is Premier League interest in Kingsley Coman, however, reports suggest that Saudi Arabia is also a likely destination for the French international.

There needs to be investment this summer
We may reasonably argue that we’re in possession of the world’s leading striker in Harry Kane.
Beyond that, however, it becomes difficult to point out where else Bayern are objectively best in class.
Manuel Neuer is not the force he once was. Meanwhile, Manchester City will feel reasonably well inclined to argue they possess a superior holding midfielder to Joshua Kimmich in Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
Elsewhere, there’s plenty of quality between Alphonso Davies, Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala.
Ultimately, of course, we’ll need to see serious investment this summer if we want Bayern back in the Champions League semi-finals and beyond in the near future.
Stripping down the wage bill and squad won’t be enough to achieve that ambition.
