Jonas Urbig will get another opportunity to showcase his talents to the Bayern Munich hierarchy.
The 21-year-old will fill in once again for the injured Manuel Neuer amid the latter’s ongoing rehab after suffering a muscle fibre tear.
The Bavarian giants and the No.40 are next in action on Wednesday night (April 16) where they’ll be looking to overturn a first leg 2-1 defeat in Munich against Inter Milan at the San Siro.
Urbig has kept two clean sheets and conceded twice in three Champions League appearances in the 2024/25 season.
Manuel Neuer to return in late April

Florian Plettenberg confirmed on X (formerly Twitter), in a report shared with BILD, that Neuer won’t return to the pitch until the end of April.

Presuming that the 39-year-old’s recovery continues without any complications, the German national player will be back for potential semi-final Champions League games in April and May.
In the meantime, the veteran goalkeeper will be forced to watch from the sidelines as the Bundesliga leaders take on Inter and then Heidenheim in the league (April 19).
We just have to hope that Urbig can maintain his impressive performances in Europe!
How has Urbig fared in the Champions League?
The stats suggest Manuel Neuer’s injury hasn’t significantly damaged Bayern’s chances of progressing in the tournament.
Our No.1’s protege – rated highly enough in Munich to be guaranteed minutes next season – has remarkably even recorded a higher average rating in the Champions League (Sofascore).

It’s still a bit too early to dub Jonas Urbig the great successor to a goalkeeper of Neuer’s calibre.
Still, we have to give credit where credit is due and acknowledge what have been some impressive showings in between the sticks. And that’s despite the daunting task of filling in for Bayern’s 554-cap shotstopper!
Help keep us in the game in Italy and play a starring role in another potentially historic comeback at the San Siro, and Urbig’s legend will only grow.
