Manchester United get definitive Leon Goretzka answer over summer transfer amid £14.6m hurdle

Leon Goretzka has every intention of fulfilling his contract with Bayern Munich.

Despite interest from the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window, the German international doesn’t want to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.

His current terms are set to expire in the summer of 2026, with the midfielder currently not keen on an early exit.

That remains the case even accounting for Manchester United’s ongoing and longstanding interest in Goretzka’s services.

The Premier League giants were reportedly keen on snapping up the No.8 in the January transfer window.

However, much as is the case at this point in time (Tuesday April 15, at the time of writing), the midfielder was not open to a mid-season exit.

Still, United’s focus remains trained on Leon Goretzka in case the midfielder changes his mind ahead of the end of the season.

The fact the 30-year-old recently moved to the ROOF agency, which is well-connected to the Premier League (serving clients like Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk), offers some encouragement.

Playing well at Bayern

There are more than a few factors, however, that weigh heavily in favour of the ex-FC Schalke star staying put in Munich beyond the upcoming summer window.

For starters, Goretzka has been one of the more ever-present members of Vincent Kompany’s first-XI in 2024/25. The Bochum-born player has picked up 2,029 minutes in the middle of the park – significantly more than the seemingly doomed Joao Palhinha (927) for instance!

Player Minutes Average Sofascore rating (Bundesliga)
Leon Goretzka 2,029 7.17
Joshua Kimmich 3,837 7.89
Jamal Musiala 2,871 7.58
Aleksandar Pavlović 1,454 7.13
Joao Palhinha 927 6.78

The footballer is also more than aware of the reality that no other club would be willing to cover his current salary of €17m [£14.6m] per year.

Come the summer window after next in 2026, Leon Goretzka will then have his pick of clubs as a potential free agent.
