Christopher Nkunku has told Chelsea he wants to leave the English capital in the summer window.
The Bayern-linked striker is exploring his options ahead of the market opening briefly between June 1-10.
Christoph Freund and the Bundesliga champions-elect are believed to be keen on bolstering their forward line. A backup signing for Harry Kane, in particular, is on the shortlist.
Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta is one name that has been reportedly considered.
Bayern need a favour from Tottenham

With all eyes on Florian Wirtz (a decision on his future pending), we don’t exactly have tonnes of room in the budget. Certainly not €70m (Nkunku’s January valuation) worth of room!
Max Eberl has already been made aware that sales and cuts to the wage bill will be necessary.
On that note, a significant exit – say in the form of a €60m [£51.4m] bid for Mathys Tel – would provide major relief.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be prepared to meet that figure for their loan star. In fact, it’s rumoured that Spurs are trying to lower the fixed asking price.
This could have serious consequences for Christopher Nkunku’s hopes of a switch to Munich this summer.
“It’s a €60m price tag in the contract. Perhaps this would give Eberl some flexibility to go for the player he likes,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“Otherwise, it would be too difficult to sign him for Bayern Munich.
“Nkunku would be interested, still, in a move to Bayern, and in the meantime, he’s searching for interested clubs.”
Christopher Nkunku is an unlikely signing
Whilst there were ‘concrete talks’ with Bayern in the winter, it’s currently looking unlikely that we’ll have the financial flexibility to make a move. Doubly so if Tottenham are looking to haggle over the price tag.
That’s a shame, of course, given the obvious quality of a player with plenty of Bundesliga experience.
If Bayern Munich could manage to get Nkunku back to his pre-injury levels at RB Leipzig, there’s every indication he’d be a quality rotational option with Kane.
Players | Season | Games/Minutes | Goal contributions | Minutes per goal contribution |
Christopher Nkunku | 2024/25 (Premier League) | 42/2,039 | 19 | 107.31 |
Christopher Nkunku | 2022/23 (Bundesliga) | 36/2,733 | 32 | 85.40 |
Harry Kane | 2024/25 (Bundesliga) | 43/3,375 | 48 | 70.31 |
The big question for some, understandably, will be the impact of successive serious injury concerns since 2022.
However, a season clear of injuries in 2024/25 should offer some hope in that regard. Even more so given that Christopher Nkunku wouldn’t be expected to play anywhere near as many games as his potential competition in Munich.
