Bayern Munich are planning to sell Joao Palhinha, amongst several names in the squad.
The club is hoping they’ll still make back some of the €51m [£42m] they paid Fulham in 2024.
He’s considered a bit of a flop signing in the Bundesliga. However, he still has a good name in the Premier League (because of his prior performances with the Cottagers), which Bayern hope will be enough to encourage reasonable offers.
Ultimately, they’ve seen they have players already good enough, like Aleksandar Pavlović, who is ill (mononucleosis) at the moment but is viewed as the team’s future. Then there’s Tom Bischoff as well.
Vincent Kompany isn’t a fan of Palhinha

As far as Vincent Kompany is concerned, Palhinha simply doesn’t suit the Belgian head coach’s needs or system.
The Portuguese international wasn’t a Kompany player when he came in from Burnley – he was still attuned to Thomas Tuchel’s way of thinking.
The club is also very much in agreement with Kompany; they want to sell him this summer, provided there’s a chance to.
Joao Palhinha still believes he has a chance to succeed at Bayern but, for the moment, it doesn’t seem that way for everyone else involved with the decision.
Pavlović and Goretzka favoured
It’s worth pointing out that Palhinha didn’t get a single minute of playing time in the 2-2 draw with Dortmund. Instead, Pavlović came in for Leon Goretzka following his return from illness.
| Player | Minutes played in all competitions (2024/25) |
| Joao Palhinha | 927 |
| Leon Goretzka | 2,029 |
| Aleksandar Pavlović | 1,454 |
| Joshua Kimmich | 3,837 |
Bayern’s upcoming return leg in the Champions League on Wednesday would seem the kind of game the 29-year-old was bought for. But it seems that he won’t play a role again.
As I mentioned, the holding midfielder was a target of Tuchel’s – Kompany has no use for him.
Nonetheless, Palhinha wants to continue fighting for his chance. Even while the bosses at Bayern Munich hope he’ll agree to a Premier League return and that his management will try to find an interested club.
