Bayern Munich appear more likely to win the race for Jonathan Tah this summer.
The Bundesliga giants may be sweating over the future of Florian Wirtz, however, decision-makers are increasingly confident of signing the soon-to-be free agent.
The German international had initially been deemed likely to move on a free transfer to Barcelona this summer.
Jonathan Tah won’t wait for Barcelona

Barcelona’s precarious financial situation – with the club having reportedly halted its transfer plans for the next campaign – looks set to derail their dealings this summer.
The Blaugrana had hoped to continue a trend of free transfer signings with the acquisition of the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back.
However, Bayern-linked Tah is now understood to have lost patience with Hansi Flick’s outfit. A potential agreement with Barcelona is now no longer viewed as a realistic option.
The club’s director of sport, Max Eberl, made positive strides with regard to the centre-half’s future in a meeting with FC Bayern’s supervisory board on Monday. The former Gladbach executive’s proposal to sign Jonathan Tah was approved!
Bayern will offer the footballer a contract running until the summer of 2028.
A Premier League transfer is unlikely
The closing of a door to La Liga won’t open a window to the Premier League.
FC Bayern are already in intensive talks with the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi. More to the point: Tah now does not want to leave Germany in the upcoming window.
So, as things currently stand, the Bundesliga winners are in pole position and very likely to complete the transfer.
FC Bayern will gain a reliable centre-back
Assuming Bayern get the deal over the line, it’s a move that would effectively kill three birds with one stone.
The upcoming departure of Eric Dier to AS Monaco means the club will be short of a centre-half this summer.
Bayern Munich’s need for a defensive leader like Jonathan Tah, following a disappointing exit from the Champions League, has also been well-documented. Given that the club want to sell Kim Min-jae this summer, Tah could be an ideal successor.
On top of that, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund know they’ll be at least partly fixing an availability issue at the back.
Tah has missed all but one domestic game in 2024/25 (due to illness) – in stark contrast to his Bayern counterparts.
Players | Games missed with injury/illness |
