One could forgive Bayern Munich fans for having hoped to see their side clinch the Bundesliga title at the Allianz Arena.
Had Bayer Leverkusen managed to overcome a two-goal deficit against SC Freiburg, the Bavarian giants would have been able to confirm the championship against Gladbach.
The opportunity was lost, but the moment was rightly celebrated, regardless, by a jubilant cast of players in Munich.
Ultimately, that’ll be no matter, of course, with Bayern set to lift their first Bundesliga title in the new era under Vincent Kompany.
Manuel Neuer misses out

First-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer missed out on proceedings in favour of a more wholesome evening.
Whilst Harry Kane and Co. were involved in jubilant scenes at the Käfer restaurant, the German ‘keeper was at home making dinner.
“You see that Bayern Munich’s players are used to winning the title nearly every year,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“So, there was a party that took place after Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw with SC Freiburg, as we’ve mentioned previously. But, it will have no doubt come to the attention of onlookers that not every Bayern player was in attendance!
“Manuel Neuer, for example, who is the team captain, was actually at home and busy cooking risotto!”
Bayern will have their captain back
The good news is that Vincent Kompany will have his captain back to lift the Meisterschale at the weekend.
The No.1 had been out with a calf muscle injury, leaving Jonas Urbig (21) to deputise, but Manuel Neuer is expected to return between the sticks this coming Saturday.
Who are Bayern’s most decorated goalkeepers?
Bayern’s latest title success has seen Thomas Müller become the most-decorated player in Bundesliga history with 13 league titles to his name.
Manuel Neuer, to his credit, isn’t far off that figure (12) since joining the club in 2011. With his contract set to run for another year (expiring in 2026), there’s every opportunity that he’ll match his colleague’s record.

Manuel Neuer | 12 |
Sven Ulreich | 9 |
Oliver Kahn | 8 |
Bernd Dreher | 7 |
