Bayern chief “maintaining contact” to sign 26y/o winger, summer exit possible

Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo enjoyed a fantastic 2024-25 season for the Reds, but he could leave Anfield this summer.

Bayern Munich are looking to bolster their attacking ranks, and signing a left-winger is a top priority for them.

After missing out on Florian Wirtz to Liverpool, the Bavarian club have set their sight on signing Gakpo instead.

Gakpo has been one of the key players for Liverpool this season, making a huge contribution to the club’s 20th Premier League title.

The 26-year-old winger contributed to 24 goals (in all competitions) for the Reds, and it seems Bayern are keen to get his signature.

Christian Falk told CF Bayern this week that Bayern are interested in Gakpo, but they are also checking on other targets, including Kaoru Mitoma, Rafael Leao, and Eberechi Eze.

Sky Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg, claims that Gakpo’s departure from Anfield is highly possible if Liverpool receive the right offer.

Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, is maintaining contact, but apart from that, there is no concrete development. Bayern are one of the three clubs he could join if he leaves Liverpool.

Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail confirmed Bayern’s interest in Gakpo, but he thinks that Liverpool won’t be willing to sell the Dutch winger.

Should Bayern really move for Cody Gakpo?

Gakpo could be a smart signing for us, but it won’t be easy to lure him away from Anfield.

The Dutch winger is capable of scoring goals and providing assists. He has got pace, skill and the mentality to thrive at a big club.

We need to offload players like Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman, and Mathys Tel (and others) first to free up space and wages for potential new arrivals.

Bayern need to come up with a massive bid to sign Gakpo. He is in the prime of his career, and the Reds are expected to demand a huge transfer fee for him if he decides to leave at all.

Gakpo would represent a potentially exciting business for us, but Mitoma, Leao or even Eze are more realistic targets.
