The Florian Wirtz transfer saga could result in a thrilling tug-of-war between Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the coming weeks.
Earlier this week, Manchester City decided to withdraw from the race for the Bayer Leverkusen hero, and as a result, Liverpool and Bayern remain the two likely candidates vying for his signature.
Real Madrid do retain an interest in the 22-year-old attacking midfielder, but they first need to sell one of their top stars to fund any potential move for him.
Florian Wirtz – Liverpool take decisive step

According to a report from German newspaper Bild (print edition, page 10), Liverpool are getting serious about signing Wirtz this summer.
The Reds’ CEO, Michael Edwards, is scheduled to fly to Boston this week to hold talks with FSG owners, where he will pitch the idea of why signing Wirtz is absolutely necessary.
The German international has a contract at Leverkusen until 2027, and the Bundesliga club is demanding a fee in the region of €150m (£126m). Having extended the contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, the Premier League champions are now looking to add more quality players to their ranks, and they see Wirtz as someone who can make a huge impact.
Meanwhile, Bayern are thought to be leading the race for Florian Wirtz, and the Bavarians are absolutely confident that he will become their record signing in the summer window or at the latest in 2026.
Florian Wirtz will take Bayern to the next level
Wirtz is a versatile attacking midfielder who can play across all three positions upfront.
This season, he has scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists in the Bundesliga, and he can only get better with age.
Bayern would need to find a long-term replacement for Thomas Muller, while Leroy Sane is likely to leave the Bundesliga champions as well.
The German giants could find it easy to convince Wirtz to stay in the league, and in that way, they will have an upper hand in the race. On the other hand, Leverkusen have not sold any player to Bayern since 2004, and that gives hope to Liverpool.
