Surprising Harry Kane stat emerges from Bayern’s 10-goal thrashing of Auckland City

Harry Kane had a game to forget leading the line for Bayern Munich in their opening Club World Cup clash.

The England international left the game goalless with his substitution for hat-trick hero Jamal Musiala on the 61st minute of action.

Not that the former Tottenham striker needed to be at his best at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

Kingsley Coman and Co. showcased plenty of attacking quality across both halves to leave Auckland City with a mountain of a negative goals difference to climb in the group stage.

It was not Kane’s greatest display against objectively low-quality opposition in the competition’s opener.

The 2024/25 Bundesliga top-scorer failed to show his lethality in front of goal on Sunday evening, registering just the one shot on target all game.

Of course, things might have turned out a little differently had he managed to get on the end of a Thomas Muller ball inside the Auckland City box in the first half. Michael Olise, instead, capitalised on the opportunity to heap further pain on the New Zealand-based outfit.

All in all, a Sofascore score of 6.8/10 was probably a little generous given Harry Kane’s display in the United States.

  • 61 minutes
  • 1 shot on target
  • 1/2 dribbles completed
  • 13 touches
  • 67% pass accuracy (6/9)
  • 1 key pass
  • 1/3 ground duels won
  • 0/1 aerial duel(s) won
  • Possession lost 5 times

Manuel Neuer left Kane blushing

Our generally lethal No.9 would perhaps be best advised to stay off statistical platforms after Sunday’s outing in the Club World Cup.

Arguably, nothing better demonstrates the fact Kane was a passenger against Auckland City than goalkeeper Manuel Neuer registering more touches (31) in the tie.

Regardless, Vincent Kompany can’t have too many complaints – Bayern asserted dominance across the 90 minutes of action, as expected.

The ex-Spurs man will still have plenty in the way of games to catch up with Club World Cup top scorer Musiala and make up for a limited showing in Cincinnati.
