Bayern look to beat Chelsea for 22y/o midfielder; club have made approach – report

German champions Bayern Munich are showing keen interest in signing Barcelona attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez in the summer window.

The Bundesliga champions could face strong competition from Premier League outfit Chelsea if the Blaugrana decide to sell him at all.

Enzo Maresca is looking to add more quality to the attacking areas after winning the Conference League, and sees Lopez as a good fit for the Blues.

Earlier this month, Mundo Deportivo reported that Chelsea have offered Barcelona a possible swap deal, which would see Fermin join Enzo Maresca’s squad, with flop Christopher Nkunku moving the other way.

Joan Laporta and Hansi Flick are both uninterested in such a move. Lopez has become a useful player for Barcelona, having managed eight goals and eight assists for Flick’s side.

The Bundesliga champions wanted to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer on a big-money deal, but he chose to join Liverpool instead.

Bayern have other targets, such as Nico Williams and Cody Gakpo, but it appears they are interested in Lopez.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Bayern have made contact but have been told that the 22-year-old midfielder is not interested in a move and wants to stay at Barcelona.

Are Bayern Munich getting desperate in landing a new attacker?

Lopez made only 12 starts in La Liga last season, but he has made useful contributions to the side.

He is a versatile player who can play across all three forward positions and also as a number ten, which is probably why Bayern are interested in him.

Bayern have been heavily linked with a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, but it appears he could move to Barcelona instead.

The Bavarian giants are also interested in Rafael Leao and Cody Gakpo, but as of now, they have made any formal approach yet for either of them.

Bayern need new signings next season as they will be without Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller. But it’s unclear whether they will be able to persuade Lopez to join them.
