There were suggestions of unrest in the Bayern camp after some revealing comments from star midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
The German international had told reporters in the aftermath of a 10-0 thrashing of Auckland City in the Club World Cup that he felt attacking reinforcements were necessary.
This was, understandably, taken in some quarters to be a direct dig aimed at the club’s director of sport, Max Eberl.
There is no feud between Max Eberl and Joshua Kimmich

Bayern fans can breathe a sigh of relief: there is no serious “feud” to speak of between player and Bayern chief.
“I was there when Kimmich said that the offence could use more players. I was also there when Eberl said that he was responsible for that, not Kimmich. But it wasn’t a rebuke,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“I know that they both talked and laughed about it in the hotel. Neither side meant any offence.
“Eberl knows that Kimmich is ambitious. He only wants the best for the team. But Eberl is the man who ultimately has to make the decisions off the pitch. Just like Kimmich on the pitch.”
The point remains for Bayern in the summer transfer window
Feud or no feud, Bayern still need to conduct some further business this summer if we intend to improve on a quarter-final exit to Inter Milan in 2024/25’s Champions League campaign.
The backline has been markedly improved with the addition of defensive leader Jonathan Tah. Now there’s a need to add more firepower – particularly on the flanks, with Leroy Sané set to head to the Turkish top-flight on a free transfer.
Nico Williams would represent an exciting injection of youth and pace, provided Barcelona don’t first muster up the funds necessary to complete a transfer.
There’s also PSG’s backup left winger Bradley Barcola to consider, but we understand that PSG are in no rush to push the 22-year-old out the door.
Regardless of the challenges, it’s difficult to see how else FC Bayern and other European heavyweights can compete with the reigning Champions League holders in 2025/26.
Speed and goals could buy Bayern a golden ticket to the latter stages of the competition. But it remains to be seen if we can sell players quickly enough to fund forays into the market.
