What Joao Palhinha did to Kimmich immediately after Germany vs Portugal

Germany have crashed out of the UEFA Nations League semi-finals following a 2-1 defeat to Portugal.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men first took the lead via Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz in the 48th minute.

The visitors rallied with a five-minute double salvo in the second half, with Francisco Conceição and Cristiano Ronaldo netting the equalising and winning goals respectively.

This was Portugal’s first competitive win against Germany since the 2000 Euros.

Roberto Martinez’s men will face one of France or Spain in the final on Sunday June 8.

The FC Bayern holding midfielder may not have a bright future in Munich, but he certainly embodies the club’s family values.

Joao Palhinha was photographed providing some comfort to his club teammates, including Joshua Kimmich, after Portugal secured a berth in the UEFA Nations League final.

What does Palhinha’s Bayern future look like?

You have to feel a little sorry for Bayern Munich’s 2024 summer signing.

Initially targeted to form part of a Thomas Tuchel team, the former Fulham man instead joined a year later than originally intended and for a different project.

It seems Vincent Kompany’s vision for the club simply does not stretch to include the 29-year-old footballer.

Despite that, his latest comments, picked up by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, indicate the player is unwilling to leave this summer.

This supports Tobi Altschäffl’s report with BILD yesterday, confirming that Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry and Palhinha are allowed to leave the club.

However, crucially, the trio appear to have no intention of cutting ties with Bayern this summer.

A problem for Max Eberl

The pressure is already on Max Eberl to cut costs at Bayern Munich and offload some dead wood.

With Leroy Sane nearing an exit on a free agency and the likes of Joao Palhinha and Co. digging their heels in, the director of sport’s job this summer looks a particularly tricky one.

The hope, perhaps, remains that a move to familiar territory with Fulham could persuade Palhinha to change his mind.

Only time will tell.
