Bayern battle Arsenal to sign £77m attacker after internal discussion held

Bayern Munich are likely to miss out on Nico Williams, and they have had internal discussions about signing Rafael Leao from AC Milan.

The German champions could face strong competition from Premier League outfit Arsenal, who are also vying for Leao’s signature this summer.

The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking options, and they could move for Leao after missing out on Leroy Sane.

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Arsenal, Chelsea and the Saudi Pro League clubs are showing interest in the 26-year-old winger.

AC Milan are yet to receive any offer for the Portuguese attacker, but they could be open to selling him at the right price.

The Rossoneri, who could demand a fee in the region of £77m (€90m) for Leao, who scored 70 goals for them in all competitions since joining the club in 2019.

Earlier this month, Gianluica Di Marzio reported that Bayern could make a serious move for Leao. He claimed that the German giants could bid in the region of £42m-£50m for the attacker.

Foot Mercato further added that Bayern are ready to offer a massive fee of around £63m to secure Leao’s signature, and they could offer either Leon Goretzka or Kingsley Coman to sweeten the deal.

However, it appeared that Bayern had cooled their interest as they fixated on signing Nico Williams. While Bayern are still waiting to see if Williams can reach an agreement with Barcelona, as per Fabrizio Romano, they have discussed internally this week moving on to other targets, especially Leao.

Christian Falk has informed CFBayern that Germany legend Lothar Matthäus is a big fan of the player and believes he has huge potential. The Bild journalist added that Arsenal are also in the race for Leao.

Falk also tells us that Leao would cost around £60m.

Why would Rafael Leao be a smart signing for Bayern Munich

The Bavarian club have been linked with other top attackers like Cody Gakpo and Bradley Barcola in recent weeks, but Leao has an advantage over them.

The former Sporting winger can not only play on the flanks, but he is also capable of leading the forward line. It means he can also be used as a backup option for Harry Kane.

Bayern will be without Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller next summer, and they need a top-quality attacker. Leao would be a good option, but doubts remain whether Bayern would be willing to meet AC Milan’s asking price.
