Bayern Munich back in race for £55.6m player who is expected to join Chelsea – report

Bayern Munich have not given up on the hopes of signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Premier League outfit Chelsea are heavily interested in signing Gittens, but the Blues have other targets as well.

Chelsea already had a £42m bid turned down this month for Gittens, but the London outfit are expected to come up with another fresh offer.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Chelsea want to sign a left-winger this summer, and they have prepared a three-man list of targets, with Gittens being one of them.

Dortmund expect Gittens to join Chelsea. The talks between the two clubs are ongoing and there is an expectation that a face-to-face meeting will take place in the United States at the Club World Cup.

Bayern Munich are also in the race for Gittens. While they are heavily interested in signing Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, they remain keen admirers of Gittens.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed that Gittens features high on Max Eberl’s list, and Vincent Kompany gave the green light for the transfer back in January.

The topic has been internally discussed recently after knowing that Chelsea have yet to reach an agreement for the 20-year-old winger.

Dortmund are demanding a fee of £55.6m for the youngster. Gittens remains an option for Bayern, especially if they fail to sign Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola.

Bayern should look for options elsewhere

Gittens is undoubtedly a fantastic talent, but Bayern should actively consider other options.

Despite his vast potential, Gittens didn’t enjoy a consistent 2024/25 campaign.

Christian Falk told CFBayern that Bayern are unwilling to meet Dortmund’s asking price. The Bavarian club need players who are consistently playing at a high level.

In recent weeks, they have been linked with moves for Liverpool duo Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz, and either of them would be a terrific signing for the club.

Gittens would still be a very good signing for us, but before that, we must try to secure any one of our top targets, such as Williams, Barcola, Gakpo, Diaz, and Rafael Leao.
