Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, and they are keen to secure his permanent signing in the summer.
Bayern are more than happy to let the 20-year-old leave the Allianz Arena, as his relationship with the German club has been completely broken.
Spurs, however, are not willing to pay the £50m asking price (as part of the deal) for Tel, but they have been in intense talks with Bayern in recent weeks over securing his signature.
Mathys Tel – Bayern waiting for Tottenham next move

Earlier this month Christian Falk informed CFBayern that the Bavarian club are willing to renegotiate at a lower asking price for Tel, ranging between £30m-£33m.
Tel didn’t play in the Europa League final, and he has had a tough loan spell at Spurs. However, Spurs believe that he has tremendous potential, and it is worth signing him permanently.
Sky Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg, reported that Tottenham have floated the idea of signing Tel for another loan spell, but Bayern do not entertain such move.
“There were rumours I read coming out of England that Tottenham’s buy option for Mathys Tel was already triggered as a result of matches played,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CFBayern Insider.
“That’s not true. We’ve talked with Bayern and if they want to make a deal they have to open negotiations with Spurs. These would be taken care of by Jan-Christian Dreesen, the CEO, who has a good connection with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
“Bayern know that Levy’s famous for making late deals happen to get players cheaper. So, at the moment, everyone is waiting, and nothing has concretely happened yet.”
Bayern Munich playing the waiting game
The German giants have lowered their asking price, and they must stick to their decision. It would be a disaster to further lower his asking price. Tottenham must pay, or else Bayern should consider offloading him elsewhere.
Tottenham are famous for making late deals, and they can try the same trick here. Bayern could be forced into sending him out on loan again. Therefore, it would be wise for Bayern to set a deadline for Spurs to complete the deal for Tel if they are serious about landing him.
Spurs are also interested in signing Bayern winger Leroy Sane on a free transfer, and Daniel Levy shares a good relationship with the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi.
It will be interesting to see whether Tottenham would be willing to secure double signings from Bayern this summer. It won’t be easy. But anything can happen in a transfer window.
