Kompany shares why Leroy Sane didn’t get minutes in Bayern win v Auckland

Bayern Munich secured a massive 10-0 win against Auckland City on Sunday at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

The German giants were totally dominant in every department and hit double figures for the first time since August 2021.

Vincent Kompany handed a debut to Lennart Karl, but there was no sign of Leroy Sane.

Bayern were left disappointed last week after Sane decided to join Galatasaray.

Premier League giants Arsenal were heavily interested in signing Sane, but the German international decided to move to the Turkish champions instead.

Sane was running out of time to reach a contract agreement with Bayern. The German giants presented him with a lucrative offer, but it was not enough to persuade him to stay.

Bayern wanted Sane to participate in the Club World Cup, and hence they reached an agreement with Galatasaray to allow him to move to the United States.

Gala did an insurance policy with the player as part of the deal, where Bayern will continue to pay Sane’s salary if he gets injured.

Sane didn’t get a minute against Auckland, and Kompany explained why.

The Bayern boss said (h/t @iMiaSanMia): “He was the last to join us. He will definitely still play his role, an important role.

“Hopefully, he’ll give it his all for three more games, and hopefully, we’ll be able to play the last few games [of the tournament] without him after he’s gone.”

Leroy Sane’s final few games for Bayern

Bayern do have a strong squad, but it’s always good to have quality players, even on the bench.

Kingsley Coman, who has been linked with a move, impressed heavily in the opening game, and Bayern fans will hope that Sane will contribute with goals and assists in his final few games for the club.

A summer transfer window is waiting for Bayern. The Bavarian club need to replace players like Sane and Coman, and getting the right player is key.

They have been linked with a move for Nico Williams, but Max Eberl has remained tight-lipped when asked about any potential move for the Athletic Bilbao attacker.
