“It’s a pity” – Bayern player reacts to major club official announcement

Bayern Munich confirmed on Sunday that Mathys Tel has left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal.

The 20-year-old striker joined Spurs in the January transfer window on loan. Spurs have now decided to sign him permanently.

He won the Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur last season and felt a move to north London would be ideal for his career growth.

Tel had a contract at Bayern until 2029, and Spurs reportedly paid a fee of around €35m [£29.7m] to sign the young talent.

Tottenham did not trigger the clause included in his loan deal, which is said to number at €45m [£38.2m] (plus the €10m loan fee).

After the official confirmation was made, Bayern midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic expressed his reaction to the news.

The 21-year-old midfielder admitted that he was very close to Tel, and “it’s a pity” that Tel has left the club to join Tottenham.

Pavlovic said (h/t Kerry Hau): “Personally, I think it’s a pity. He was a very good friend of mine and still is. In the end, he and the club made the decision. That’s unfortunately how it is”

Good move for all parties involved

Tel joined Munich from Stade Rennes at the age of 17 ahead of the 2022/23 season.

He made 83 appearances in all competitions for FC Bayern, scoring 16 goals and winning two Bundesliga titles.

The youngster hopes to play a prominent role at Tottenham, and new manager Thomas Frank is reportedly excited to work with him.

Bayern have received a good money from Tel’s transfer, and they must reinvest in the squad to add more quality players.

It will be interesting to see if there will be more departures in the summer. Kingsley Coman has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena, but Vincent Kompany has remained coy over the matter after his heroic performance in the 10-0 win against Auckland City.
