Tottenham negotiating deal to seal attacker’s signing; club set asking price

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bolster their attacking areas after a disappointing 2024/25 Premier League campaign and want to sign Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich.

Spurs ended the season strongly by winning the Europa League. As a result, they will play in the Champions League next season, but Ange Postecoglou’s future at the north London club has come under scrutiny.

Tottenham signed Tel on loan in the January window, and they were required to pay £50m to sign him permanently. Spurs are in ‘intense’ negotiations with Bayern to lower the asking price.

Bayern have made a decision to let Tel go after his acrimonious departure in January.

Spurs are reluctant to pay such a high transfer fee for the attacker who didn’t play in the Europa League final.

Christian Falk informed CFBayern that the German giants are willing to renegotiate at a lower asking price, ranging between £30m-£33m.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has a good contact with Spurs, and he is leading the discussion for Tel’s potential exit.

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the two clubs are locked in “intense” talks. Tottenham have floated the idea of signing him on another loan spell with an obligation to buy, but Bayern prefer to sell him permanently.

Bayern Munich should not entertain another loan spell for Tel

The 20-year-old scored two goals in 13 Premier League appearances for Spurs. It was an underwhelming campaign for him, but Spurs see him as someone with loads of potential.

The idea of getting Tel on another loan spell would be a masterstroke decision from Daniel Levy (Tottenham chairman), but Bayern should focus on securing his permanent exit only.

Tottenham are also keen to sign Bayern Munich’s winger Leroy Sane, who is also attracting interest from Arsenal in recent weeks.

Tel does not have any future at Bayern, but the German giants must sell the player on their terms. Vincent Kompany needs funds to rebuild the squad to his own taste, and Bayern must be smart in their transfer dealings.
