Bayern submit Luis Diaz bid amid backup transfer masterplan

FC Bayern have been clear on their summer targets and where Luis Diaz and Nick Woltemade stand in the shortlist hierarchy.

Both options sit firmly at the top of the shortlist. The Bavarian giants are appreciative of the fact that these transfers will require tough negotiation.

The Colombian international would be an ideal addition in the summer transfer window, especially after Leroy Sané’s free transfer exit to Galatasaray.

Max Eberl and Bayern’s recruitment team are understood to have submitted a bid worth €52m [£44.8m] for Luis Diaz.

It’s worth pointing out that the club has room to go higher, if need be. An upper limit of €60m [£51.6m] plus possible bonuses for Diaz had been pre-decided ahead of negotiations with the Premier League champions.

However, it remains to be seen just how amenable the Merseysiders will be in negotiations. There is an expectation – despite the player having expressed his interest in a move to Munich – that Arne Slot’s outfit will look to demand closer to €80m [£69m].

Diaz had a strong Premier League season

It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise if Liverpool push away Bayern’s opening bid for the left winger.

Diaz hit 20 goal contributions (13 goals and seven assists) in 36 Premier League games as the Reds stormed to a 20th English top-flight title.

Between the No.7 and Cody Gakpo, the left wing position is arguably the most reinforced in the squad. Slot will be in absolutely no rush to see this equilibrium disrupted ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Where this leaves Bayern in the summer transfer window

It wouldn’t be the most ideal situation for director of sport Max Eberl, it has to be said.

Nonetheless, it would be remiss of us to suggest that Bayern are without alternative options.

Xavi Simons, for instance, is viewed as a viable backup option should moves for Diaz and Nick Woltemade not work out.

The Dutch international of RB Leipzig is considered a versatile option capable of playing on the flanks, as an attacking midfielder, and even higher up in central attacking positions.

He’s one to keep an eye on this summer, depending on how negotiations with Liverpool and VfB Stuttgart pan out.

Luis Diaz and Woltemade are more than open to moves to Munich. Now it’s up to the clubs.
