Bayern battle Chelsea to sign one of ‘Europe’s most exciting’ attackers; contact made already

Bayern Munich are reportedly showing interest in signing RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons, but they could face competition from Chelsea.

The Blues have been busy in the summer transfer window, having made some top signings already. Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens have been added to bolster the attacking options, but Enzo Maresca could still be looking to bring in more attackers this summer.

Chelsea are looking to offload the likes of Noni Madueke, Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku, with the latter heavily linked with a move to Bayern this summer.

Simons scored 10 goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances last season. Leipzig failed to qualify for European football next season, and Simons could be lured to move to the Premier League, with Chelsea reportedly showing interest.

Bayern need to bolster their attacking options after Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury that could rule him out for four months. Moreover, there is room for a new addition after Leroy Sane had left the club following the expiry of his contract.

According to a report from The Athletic, the German champions have enquired about signing the 22-year-old attacker, who has told Leipzig that he wishes to leave in the summer.

Simons joined permanently from Paris Saint-Germain for €50m [£43m] in January 2025, but he is already seeking an exit. He believes that he is ready to take the next step in his career, and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea or Bayern come up with an offer in the coming weeks.

Other targets for Bayern Munich

We reported that Bayern have made Liverpool winger Luis Diaz their top priority target this summer.

The German champions are ready to pay €60m [£51.6m] plus possible bonuses for Diaz, who reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement with the club for exit.

Apart from Diaz, Bayern are also interested in Chelsea winger Christopher Nkunku, while Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze is also on their radar.
