Bayern should bid for ‘versatile’ Chelsea player as exit looks inevitable for 28y/o star – opinion

Bayern Munich have been actively trying to bolster their attacking areas, but they could also look to sign a new defender this summer.

Earlier this month, Chelsea defender Renato Veiga was linked with a move to Bayern, and the young talent will be a fantastic addition to the side.

Veiga may have struggled to make an impact under Enzo Maresca, but that should not be a major factor while considering his profile.

Bayern could allow Kim Min-jae to leave the club, and if that happens, Veiga could replace him.

Fabrizio Romano claimed earlier this month that Bayern have added Veiga as a potential option for the centre-back role.

Christian Falk has also confirmed that Veiga is someone who is liked by Bayern, but any movement can only take place if the club decide to offload Min-jae.

When Max Eberl was asked recently about the futures of Min-jae and Palhinha, he said: “We’ll play with both of them until the end of the Club World Cup.

“They’ll be in the squad. After that, we’ll see what the transfer market looks like.”

Min-jae has been benched throughout the Club World Cup, and it has become evident that he is not in Vincent Kompany’s long-term plans.

Despite recovering from injury and travelling with the squad, Min-jae didn’t get a single minute to prove his worth. It feels like the end of the road for the 28-year-old South Korean at Bayern.

Renato Veiga could be a smart addition

Veiga was seen as a top talent when he first burst onto the scene at FC Basel.

His move to Chelsea didn’t work out well. He moved to Juventus on loan, where he managed 17 tackles and 19 interceptions in 13 Serie A games, as per SofaScore.

At 21, his best years are ahead of him. The Portuguese youngster is a ‘versatile’ player who can also play as a defensive midfielder. He has a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, and Bayern can afford to sign him on loan initially, with an option to make the move permanent.

In that way, it will be a risk-free business. Veiga will be left to rot on the bench at Chelsea, but he could fulfil his true potential at Bayern. The Bavarian giants must make a bid for him and secure his signature at the earliest.
