Bayern set to miss out on £34m Chelsea player in fresh transfer update

Bayern Munich are set to miss out on Chelsea defender Renato Veiga.

The 21-year-old spent the last season on loan away at Juventus, and he is not in Enzo Maresca’s long-term plans.

The versatile defender, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, has been chased by Bayern this summer, but it appears that he is close to joining Atletico Madrid instead.

The Blues need to offload some of their unwanted players this summer to make room for new additions. Veiga joined on a long-term deal from FC Basel, but Chelsea have given up on him.

Christian Falk informed CFBayern last week that Bayern are interested in signing Chelsea duo Veiga and Malo Gusto, but the German giants need to sell some of their unwanted players, such as Kim Min-jae.

Florian Plettenberg claimed this week that Veiga has emerged as a ‘concrete’ option for La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. While Bayern do admire him, they are currently focusing on signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the defender is keen to join the La Liga side. Chelsea are demanding a fee of £34m for Veiga. The Portuguese defender has already said ‘yes’ to Atletico move, and there are no issues on personal terms.

Plettenberg further adds that if Atletico fail to sign Veiga, then other clubs could join the race.

Bayern Munich are missing out on targets

The summer window is proving to be a nightmare for Bayern. At a big club like Bayern, the sporting directors should focus on securing multiple deals simultaneously.

In Bayern’s case, it feels like they are stuck in a rut. They are focusing on one player at a time, and taking ages to come to a decision.

Along with signing new players, Bayern must also consider removing their fringe players from the squad. Veiga would have been a brilliant signing for Bayern, but the German giants are not in a position to think of anything else apart from Diaz at the moment.
