Bayern ready to open talks as Tottenham eye move for ‘world-class’ player

Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha wants to stay at the club and fight for his place, but the club do not see it in the same way.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly showing interest in signing the 30-year-old midfielder who has struggled to make an impact under Vincent Kompany.

Spurs have already signed Mathys Tel from Bayern this summer, and the north London club could yet sign another player from the same club.

Spurs are looking to sign a new No.6 this summer, and Palhinha could be an interesting option for them.

TBR Football reported Tottenham’s interest in the defensive midfielder, suggesting that Spurs had held a fresh round of talks with Palhinha in the past few days.

The former Fulham midfielder remains an active option for Spurs. The Athletic further added that Spurs are only willing to sign Palhinha on loan, rather than on a permanent deal.

Arsenal made an approach to sign the Bayern midfielder earlier in the summer, as we exclusively revealed, but they appear to have moved on after signing Martin Zubimendi.

Christian Falk told CFBayern about Palhinha: “So there’s still the possibility of selling him this summer. The price is going down and down – €25m [£21.6m], perhaps €30m [£25.9m], but that’s it. Bayern Munich want to sell him. If he leaves, it’s also a chance for the club to go for Renato Veiga.”

Florian Plettenberg has now claimed on X that Spurs are “monitoring” the situation, and Palhinha’s camp has been informed.

While the situation is “not concrete”, Bayern are ready to open talks to sell him.

Palhinha likely to leave Bayern?

The defensive midfielder was previously hailed as a ‘world class’ operator by The Standard’s Dom Smith.

Max Eberl hailed him as an “exceptional” character, but Bayern are likely to offload him if they receive a very good offer.

Tottenham are ready to sell Yves Bissouma this summer, and getting Palhinha on loan would be another transfer masterstroke from Daniel Levy.
