Bayern Munich are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Chelsea winger Christopher Nkunku, but they could face competition from Liverpool.
The German giants have already lost one mega transfer battle with Liverpool for the signing of Florian Wirtz. This time, however, other clubs, like Manchester United or Inter Milan, are also involved.
Bayern are looking to sign Liverpool winger, Luis Diaz, but the Reds are not looking to sell him on the cheap. In case Diaz leaves the club, Nkunku could be an option for Liverpool.
Chelsea name asking price for Christopher Nkunku
The 27-year-old was a part of the Chelsea squad that won the Club World Cup in the United States, but Nkunku does not feature prominently in Enzo Maresca’s first-team plans.
In fact, Maresca reportedly never saw him as an ideal fit for the No.9 role, and their relationship has not been smooth.
The French winger joined the Blues from RB Leipzig for £52m in 2023, but he has failed to make an impact. Last season, he started in only nine out of 27 games, but did well in the Conference League, scoring five goals and providing three assists.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Manchester United and Liverpool are also monitoring Nkunku’s situation, along with Bayern, but Chelsea have not received any formal bid from them. The Blues are expecting to offload him for around £35m.
Better options avilable in the market
Bayern wanted to sign Nkunku during the January transfer window, but they were reluctant to match Chelsea’s £60m valuation for the player.
There may be a temptation to make another attempt, especially since his price has dropped, but it would be more sensible for them to pursue other targets instead.
Apart from Luis Diaz, Bayern are also checking on Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard and VfB Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade.
Nkunku remains an option for Bayern, and they are likely to make a move for him only if they fail to secure their other major targets.
