‘Strong possibility’ – Tottenham could reach agreement for ‘exceptional’ Bayern player

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly working on a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha in the summer transfer window.

Spurs could be looking to sign a defensive midfielder this summer, and have earmarked Palhinha, who was outstanding for Fulham before moving to Bayern.

Arsenal made an approach to sign the 30-year-old midfielder before the Club World Cup, but they are unlikely to be involved in the race again after signing Martin Zubimendi.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Spurs are “working on a deal” to sign the Portuguese defensive midfielder, and there is a “strong possibility” that the north Londoners will be able to reach an agreement for the player.

However, Spurs may need to sell one of their players first to sign him. They are well-stocked with central midfielders and need one or two players to leave in order to create space for a move for Palhinha.

TBR Football reported that Spurs had held a fresh round of talks with Palhinha recently. Yves Bissouma is regarded as the most likely candidate to depart the club as he is in the final year of his contract.

Palhinha should accept offer to return to the Premier League

Max Eberl hailed him as an “exceptional” character when he joined the club from Fulham, but the move has not worked out well for him.

He has not played a prominent role in Vincent Kompany’s system, and Bayern are prepared to cut their losses by offloading him.

Palhinha wants to stay at Bayern and fight for his place, but it would be better for him to move to Tottenham if there’s an offer in place.

He knows the Premier League very well and could reignite his career. Spurs can offer him Champions League football, which could be an added incentive for him.
