After Wirtz: Bayern and Liverpool battle yet again for £51m attacker signing

Bayern Munich and Liverpool could be involved in yet another transfer battle this summer.

The German giants wanted to sign Florian Wirtz in the summer, but he chose to move to Liverpool instead for a club-record transfer fee.

Bayern are interested in signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool, and both are reportedly in the race to sign Olympique Lyon’s exciting winger Malick Fofana.

According to a report from RMC Sport, Liverpool and Bayern are showing keen interest in signing Fofana. Marseille are also in the race, but they are unlikely to lure him away due to their financial problems.

Earlier this month, The Independent claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Fulham and Nottingham Forest have made contact to sign Fofana, who is valued at around £51.5m (€60m).

Fabrizio Romano also added that Bayern made an initial contact for the 20-year-old. With so many clubs vying for Fofana’s signature, it could lead to a transfer auction.

Liverpool were well stocked in their attacking areas, but they may look to sign one or two players following the tragic death of Diogo Jota. Alexander Isak remains a dream signing for the Reds, but they will have to break their bank again to sign the Newcastle United striker.

Hugo Ekitike, Anthony Gordon and Rodrygo have been mentioned, but Fofana will be a relatively cheaper option.

The same goes for Bayern as well. However, Bayern are looking to follow that route based on the players they have been linked to recently.

Bayern Munich want experienced, ready-made attackers

It appears that Bayern are more interested in signing experienced attackers who can make an immediate impact.

Diaz, 28, is vastly experienced and can play in multiple positions. Likewise, Leandro Trossard, 30, is a regular Belgian international who has been playing in the Premier League and the Champions League for many years now.

Bayern do realise that they will not get any resale value from these players, but they want to use their experiences, following the departures of Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller.
