Liverpool look to beat Bayern again for attacker signing; player wants Anfield move – report

Liverpool and Bayern Munich could go head-to-head in a transfer tussle again this summer.

The Reds hijacked Bayern’s move for Florian Wirtz and signed him for a club-record fee.

The Premier League champions are also looking to pip Bayern in the race for RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba, and now they are back again in the transfer battle for Lyon’s rising star Malick Fofana, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Chelsea.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this month that Bayern Munich and Napoli have made an initial approach to sign the 20-year-old attacker.

A host of clubs have now joined the race for Fofana, and it could lead to a transfer auction for the player.

According to The Independent, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Fulham and Nottingham Forest have made contact to sign Fofana, who is valued at around £51.5m (€60m).

Considering Lyon’s parlous financial situation, this presents a significant opportunity for them to drive the price up. He has experienced a meteoric rise following a breakthrough season, during which he scored 11 goals across 41 appearances.

He has recently made his international debut for Belgium. Known for his terrific dribbling skills, Fofana is versatile enough to play across the front line, and it does not come as a surprise that big clubs are vying for his signature.

Do Liverpool have an advantage over Bayern?

Bayern have been heavily linked with a move for Liverpool duo Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, but doubts remain whether the Reds would be willing to sell either of them.

In fact, Bayern made an approach this week to sign Diaz, but Liverpool made it clear that the Colombian winger is not for sale.

In Fofana’s case, Bayern could struggle to convince him to move to the Allianz Arena.

Back in March, the youngster’s agent, Bobo Fofana, revealed that the winger prefers to join Liverpool, as he wishes to become a legend like Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane.

He told Africa Foot: “The choice of heart would be Liverpool. He has the potential to enter the rotation, and above all, we would like to see him succeed African legends such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, and Elhadj Diouf.

“Now, the choice of reason would be Newcastle, a well-structured club that could be a first step to gain experience before, perhaps, joining a club in the European top 5.”

Bayern also remain interested in Nico Williams and Rafael Leao, but they have not reached an agreement yet with either of them.
