Bayern Munich are optimistic about securing a deal for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz in the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old has a contract at Anfield until 2027, but he is ready to move elsewhere and has already informed Liverpool of his desire to join Bayern.
Bayern are expected to submit an improved offer for Diaz, but as of now, Liverpool have not received the third offer. The player is currently training with the squad in Hong Kong.
Luis Diaz – the latest development
Bayern are getting confident because Liverpool have signalled their intention to negotiate a deal for Diaz.
Christian Falk informed CFBayern that before Liverpool’s departure to Asia for the pre-season games, Diaz’s agent, Raul Costa, spent several days in Merseyside to negotiate and explore the possibilities of a deal.
Liverpool CEO, Michael Edwards, is focusing on the financial aspects, which could be a problem for Bayern. Diaz earns around £2.34m per year. If he leaves, the Reds will have to sign a replacement who could demand significantly more salary.
As a result, the Reds have kept a high transfer fee for him. Bayern do not want to pay £70m for Diaz. Rather, they want to keep the transfer fee at £65m.
The German champions could include a sell-on clause to sweeten the deal, allowing Liverpool to receive a percentage of any potential future sale to Saudi Arabia. Bayern are very optimistic that the deal can be done in the next seven to ten days.
Will Liverpool accept Bayern’s proposal?
Liverpool probably would allow Diaz to leave and the current proposal could appeal to them.
The Colombian has been a key player under Arne Slot, scoring 17 goals last season in all competitions.
A potential move in the future to a Saudi Pro League club could be an option for Diaz, and in that case, Liverpool would receive a decent transfer fee.
