Bayern Munich have not completely given up on signing Nico Williams.
Premier League outfit Arsenal have registered an interest in the Athletic Bilbao attacker, as Mikel Arteta wants to add a quality winger to the ranks.
He has a £50m release clause written into his deal, and matching that will not be a big problem for either Arsenal or Bayern Munich.
The problem lies elsewhere. The Spain international wants to join Barcelona, but Bayern still remain in the picture.
Nico Williams – Bayern Munich still in the hunt?

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reported towards the end of June that Bayern had submitted an offer, but Williams has turned it down.
Christian Falk had previously informed CFBayern that Williams would be a dream signing for Bayern.
In recent days, doubts have surfaced over Nico Williams’ proposed move to Barcelona.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are focused on closing the deal for Williams, but negotiations between the Catalan club and the player’s agent have stalled.
Last week, the parties reached a verbal agreement on a six-year contract and salary. Barcelona have grown frustrated by excessive demands from the forward’s agent. His agent is demanding strong guarantees for his registration with specific contractual clauses.
Barcelona consider these new requests unacceptable and suggested that such talks were not mentioned initially.
The Spanish newspaper further adds that Bayern still remain highly attentive to Williams’ situation. The Bavarian giants continue to push for a deal despite knowing that the player wants to join Barcelona.
Bayern have further indicated that they will have no problems in meeting his release clause.
Bayern should look for options elsewhere
Despite the delay in securing Williams’ signature, Barcelona are still more likely to land him.
If the deal collapses, then only Bayern or Arsenal can make a move. Having said that, the Gunners are also interested in AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, who recently has flirted with the Gunners fan base by wearing a Thierry Henry tee.
Williams has scored 31 goals in all competitions for Bilbao since 2020, and he would be a cracking addition for both Arsenal and Bayern.
The German champions are focusing on signing Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. At the same time, they have not abandoned their plans of signing a left-winger, and have added Liverpool left-winger Luis Diaz as an option.
It makes a lot of sense for Bayern to keep all options open. But most importantly, they must try to secure deals for players who are realistic targets.
