Bayern player ratings vs RB Leipzig: Harry Kane outstanding, Diaz superb

Bayern Munich started the 2025-26 season with a bang after producing a scintillating performance to win 6-0 against RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.

New signing Luis Diaz did not take long to make an instant impact as he scored in his first Bundesliga appearance for the German champions.

Michael Olise looked unstoppable as he scored twice in the first half to put Bayern into a 3-0 lead at the break.

After the break, Leipzig came out with a positive intent and made some brilliant efforts, but Bayern soon found their rhythm.

If the first half belongs to Olise, the second half belongs to Harry Kane, who netted a “perfect hat-trick” as Bayern send a strong message to their rivals on the opening day.

Diaz, who moved from Liverpool this summer, made his Bundesliga debut as Vincent Kompany named a strong side for their opening game against Leipzig.

Leon Goretzka picked up a knock early on, but the midfielder was able to shake it off as he stayed on the pitch.

Bayern’s first opportunity came in the 10th minute, when Harry Kane found Konrad Laimer in the box with a terrific pass. The right-back struck well, but the Leipzig keeper was equal to the task.

Olise opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a brilliant strike from his weaker right foot, although he was a bit fortunate as the loose ball fell to him.

Five minutes later, Diaz scored his first league goal for Bayern after a terrific passing combination involving Kane and Serge Gnabry, who provided the assist.

Olise nearly turned into a provider for Gnabry, but his effort hit the crossbar via a deflection.

It was a one-sided domination in the first half, and Gnabry registered his second assist of the night when he passed the ball in the path of Olise, who showed his class by slotting the ball into the net with his left foot.

In the second half, Leipzig created some fantastic opportunities with Antonio Nusa and Romelu making a strong impact after coming on.

Dayot Upamecano made a couple of strong blocks, while Olise tried to curl the ball in Arjen Robben fashion in the 59th minute after a lovely interchange of play.

Nusa then missed the chance to pull one back for the visitors, but he missed the target by a whisker.

Kane now got into the act. Diaz carried the ball into the box and passed it to Kane, who made no mistake in slotting home to make it 4-0.

Nusa then scored from close range after a mistake from Jonathan Tah initially, but after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was ruled out, much to the frustration of the visiting side.

Kane then added another after cutting inside and swirled the ball past Gulasci to score his second of the night, with Diaz bagging his second assist of the night. Four minutes later, he completed his hat-trick.

Here at CF Bayern Insider, we have rated the players out of 10.

Bayern player ratings

The first XI

Manuel Neuer (7) – Clean sheet. The Veteran hardly had to make a save in the first half and managed to keep a clean sheet after Nusa’s goal was disallowed.

Josip Stanisic (6) – Solid. He made two big clearances, one tackle and one interception, and managed 96% passing accuracy.

Jonathan Tah (7) – Experienced. Apart from one mistake (that did not prove costly), he was nearly flawless. Showed strength in physical battles and made two blocks.

Dayot Upamecano (7) – Terrific. He made three tackles and three clearances, and his stats speak for themselves. It does not come as a surprise that several clubs, including Manchester United, are vying for his signature.

Konrad Laimer (6) – Adventurous. At times, it felt like Laimer was operating as a right-winger. Nearly got a goal to his name.

Leon Goretzka (6) – Steady. Fans feared the worst when he picked up an early knock, but he showed great mental fortitude to come back strongly.

Joshua Kimmich (7) – Reliable. He is the midfield metronome that every manager loves to have. A true workhorse whose ball retention ability is second to none. He made 110 touches and played out 14 accurate long balls, with 96% passing accuracy.

Luis Diaz (8) – Superb. What a debut from the former Liverpool man. Bayern paid a massive transfer fee to sign the Colombian, and we saw a glimpse of how he will be used in Kompany’s system. Instead of hugging the touchline all the time, his movement will be flexible.

Serge Gnabry (8) – Very impressive. The Bayern forward nearly scored a goal in the first half, but his effort hit the crossbar. He ended the night with two assists, and most importantly, he assured everyone that he can fill the gap left by Kingsley Coman.

Michael Olise (9) – If Kane had not scored the hat-trick, but surely the former Crystal Palace winger would have got the MOTM award. He was outstanding in the first half, and Leipzig had no answer for how to stop him.

Harry Kane (9.5) – MOTM. He was superb in the first half but a bit unlucky not to have scored. In the second half, he showed why he is the best striker in the league, as he netted a hat-trick with pure class and ease.

Dominant performances like Bayern’s opening-day win are often factored into wider Bundesliga picks and predictions as the season begins to take shape.

Substitutions

Aleksandar Pavlovic (6) – Impressive with the ball at his feet.

Kim Min-jae (6) – Played his part to impress Kompany, as he made a fantastic interception high up the pitch and provided the pass for Kane’s goal.

Sacha Boey (6)

Lennart Karl (6) – Tried to shoot from distance, and looked lively after coming on.

Jonah Kusi-Asare (NA)
