What reliable journo just heard this morning about Chelsea transfer is intriguing

Christopher Nkunku has returned to Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window shortlist.

This development coincides with transfer talks for Nick Woltemade falling apart and Kingsley Coman’s impending exit from the Allianz Arena.

The Bundesliga holders are still in need of further depth in the attacking areas despite having landed Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.

FC Bayern find themselves in something of a pickle ahead of the summer transfer window deadline.

They’re likely to finish the window without their next top attacking target in Woltemade. Plus, they’ve lost considerable quality and depth around the final third with Jamal Musiala’s leg and ankle break during the Club World Cup.

So, where does this leave Vincent Kompany’s men? The answer could lie in former Bundesliga sensation Christopher Nkunku.

Christopher Nkunku is now a topic again at FC Bayern, especially after the new situation with Woltemade,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“Max Eberl already tried to get Nkunku in the winter. But at this time, Chelsea wanted a transfer fee of €70m. This was too high for FC Bayern.

“Now there is a chance to get the player for half of this price. Nkunku would be a good investment, because he can play many roles. Even as a backup for the injured Jamal Musiala. Bayern already made contact with his agent, Pini Zahavi.”

Why Nkunku is destined for Premier League exit

The French international is destined to return to the Bundesliga this summer.

Put simply, the 27-year-old’s talents have been (and continue to be) utterly wasted in the Premier League.

Despite a reasonable goal contribution rate of one every 123.65 minutes at Chelsea, the versatile centre-forward has found himself continually overlooked at Stamford Bridge.

Players Minutes per goal contribution
Christopher Nkunku 123.65 (entire Chelsea career)*
Luis Diaz 133.44 (Liverpool)
Harry Kane 71.96
Michael Olise 89.34

Bear in mind that Nkunku has been unfortunate with injuries (missing 54 games for club and country since the 2023/24 campaign). Not to mention the fact that he’s been shown little in the way of faith from Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca since his move from RB Leipzig.

A goal contribution rate of one every 98.48 minutes from his spell with the German outfit, however, indicates that there is a player still to be “unlocked”, so to speak. Certainly one well-suited to life in the Bundesliga.

Furthermore, the English top-flight hitman would provide the versatility Kompany’s side so desperately craves. He can be deployed up top, down either flank, in a supporting role right behind the main striker, and even as an attacking midfielder if need be.

So there is an opportunity here for both Christopher Nkunku and Bayern Munich. Provided both parties are open to a partnership this summer.
