Reliable journo shares huge Palhinha development that affects Tottenham transfer

Bayern have agreed to loan João Palhinha out in this summer’s transfer window.

The Bavarian giants have been keen to offload several pieces of deadwood this summer to help fund further business in the window.

However, as far as the No.16’s future is concerned, the Munich-based outfit will have to hope he can make enough of an impression in London to justify a potential activation of the buy option next year.

As far back as April, FC Bayern were hoping that Palhinha’s sound reputation in the Premier League would enable them to sell the Portuguese international back to England.

That hope has partially morphed into reality, with Tottenham understood to have agreed a loan deal for the footballer.

One of the major barriers to a transfer, of course, was the player’s determination to make something of his fledgling Bayern career.

Now, that previously ironclad position appears to have softened in the latter stages of the transfer window.

“It’s true: Bayern and Tottenham have agreed on a loan deal for João Palhinha,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“On Thursday, it was said that Palhinha was not completely convinced by the move. The player was previously committed to showing that he was good enough for FC Bayern.

“But talks with Tottenham got hot; the interest from the Londoners is interesting for him, which is why there was movement in negotiations.

“As Fabrizio Romano has confirmed, the loan deal includes a buy option of €30m [£25.9m] (which is not an obligation).”

The allure of Champions League football at Tottenham

A switch to Thomas Frank’s Tottenham, even with the Champions League anthem set to continue ringing in João Palhinha’s ears in 2025/26, is a drop-off from Bayern.

But what exactly are the alternatives available to the former Fulham man? His old club don’t seem prepared to mount a recovery effort, and it seems like Spurs are the only club available with the cash Bayern Munich are looking for.

Still, there are objectively worse options out there. With Frank at the helm, Tottenham represents an intriguing project for Palhinha to join this summer.

The London-based outfit has already recruited well, too, with the additions of West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, Kevin Danso and former Bayern teammate Mathys Tel, among others.

How much will Bayern sell Palhinha for?

Bayern Munich had initially hoped to secure as much as €51m [£42m] for the 30-year-old’s signature.

They may have to settle for a discount asking price of €30m [£25.9m] – albeit a year down the line.
