It’s over: ‘Brilliant’ Bayern star made it clear he wants out of Munich after Tottenham 2026 agreement

Joao Palhinha is keen to remain in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese midfielder moved to Spurs from Bayern Munich on loan during the summer transfer window, and he has settled in nicely at his new club.

Tottenham have an option to sign him permanently at the end of the season, and Palhinha hopes that Hotspur Way chiefs will take that route.

Palhinha joined Bayern from Fulham in the summer of 2024, with the Bavarian giants paying a handsome fee of around £47.4m for his signature.

The move did not work out well for him as he made only 25 appearances in all competitions last season. Arsenal made an approach to sign Joao Palhinha, but in the end, he moved to Spurs on a loan deal.

According to Ben Jacobs, Spurs have an option to buy Palhinha for around £27m. Palhinha has been “brilliant” for Tottenham so far, and he would like to stay in the Premier League permanently.

Jacobs said to GiveMeSport: “I think the Joao Palhinha signing has been excellent for Tottenham. The original agreement had an option to buy, which is set at £27m. That was something that both Tottenham and the player were very keen on factoring in as part of the deal.

“Palhinha, in particular, viewed the loan as being contingent, in many ways, on having that option to buy because he would like to be permanently back in the Premier League.

“If Spurs choose to take up the option, the player will be very happy with that because he dove into the move, wanting that permanence to begin with.”

The move suits all parties involved

Palhinha does not feature prominently in Vincent Kompany’s plans, and Bayern appear to have moved on without him.

Therefore, it makes sense for him not to consider returning to the Allianz Arena and instead focus on continuing at Tottenham.

Bayern will not mind selling him if Tottenham agree to pay £27m for Palhinha next summer, and the move would suit all parties involved.
