Bayern Munich vs Werder Bremen: match report

Bayern, as expected, dominated possession from the beginning and created an early chance through Harry Kane. The England striker was put through on goal by Michael Olise, but Karl Hein pulled off a great save to deny him.
It took the Bavarian giants 21 minutes to break the deadlock. Olise’s cross from the right was guided into the net by an instinctive effort from Jonathan Tah, but the replay showed that it took the final touch of Luis Diaz.
Moments later, Hein produced another strong save to deny Kane, who tried to score with his left foot. Serge Gnabry then came close to increasing the lead, but his shot agonisingly went wide of the goal.
Marco Friedl made a goal-saving intervention to deny Kane, but towards the end of the half, he fouled the Bayern striker in the box, and the referee awarded a penalty. It was not a clear-cut penalty, but there was enough touch.
Kane did not make a mistake to make it 2-0. He has now scored 18 consecutive goals from the spot in the Bundesliga.
In the second half, Bayern had a few chances, but they failed to create enough clear-cut chances, with Olise looking threatening.
Kane scored again to reach his 100th goal for the club after the hour mark with a superb finish after Luis Diaz found him in the box.
Diaz cuts inside in his trademark style and nearly got another goal to his name. It was a brilliant effort from the Colombian.
Nicolas Jackson could have scored his first goal for Bayern after he was put one-on-one against Hein, but he could only manage to hit the goalkeeper.
There was time for Bayern to add one more goal. Tom Bischof provided the assist for Laimer, who drilled home from close range.
Here at CF Bayern Insider, we have rated the players out of 10.
Bayern Munich player ratings
Manuel Neuer (7) – The Bayern goalkeeper did not have to make enough saves. It was a quiet evening for him,
Sacha Boey (7) – Fantastic. He has grabbed his chances with both hands and looked lively throughout the game. In the first half, he made one superb intervention to prevent Mbangula.
Jonathan Tah (7) – The summer signing from Leverkusen may have got the goal to his name, but he was equally brilliant at the back. Made three interceptions and two clearances.
Dayot Upamecano (7) – While his future has been speculated in the media, the Frenchman is proving time and again why he is the rock at the back.
Konrad Laimer (8) – Once again, Laimer proved his quality playing as a left-back. He blocked one shot inside the box, made a couple of excellent clearances, and scored one goal as well.
Leon Goretzka (6) – Made his 300th appearance for the club. In the first half, he made a brilliant run and provided a cross for Kane.
Tom Bischof (7) – The 20-year-old made his first Bundesliga start, and he was simply outstanding. Fearless, solid, and always looked to play progressive passes. Got the assist for Laimer’s goal.
Luis Diaz (8) – The former Liverpool man has made a substantial impact already, and he ended up scoring one goal and providing an assist. His movement and run for Kane’s goal was brilliant.
Michael Olise (7) – The former Crystal Palace winger was a menace on the right-hand side and created loads of opportunities for Kane and others. There’s no reason why he cannot win the Ballon d’Or next year.
Serge Gnabry (6) – He was probably lucky to have escaped a second yellow and tried a few shots from distance. Taken off quickly in the second half.
Harry Kane (9) – Reached his 100th goal for Bayern, the fastest by any player in the club’s history. We have run out of superlatives. Phenomenal achievement.
