Liverpool could reportedly move for Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano next summer on a free transfer.
The Reds wanted to add a new defender to their ranks during the summer transfer window and were close to signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
Despite reaching an agreement with the defender and the club, the deal ultimately collapsed.
While Guehi remains a top target for Liverpool either for the January window or next summer, the Reds are keeping all options open.
Liverpool eye move for Dayot Upamecano?

According to a report from Rousing The Kop, Upamecano has emerged as one of the targets for Liverpool, with his contract set to expire next summer.
The 26-year-old joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, and he has been a key player for the Bavarian giants over the years.
The centre-back has made over 150 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring five goals. This season, he has started strongly and produced an impressive performance against Chelsea in the Champions League.
Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as their first-choice defenders, but they lack proper depth at the back. Moreover, Konate has a contract at Anfield until the end of the season, and the Frenchman has yet to sign a new deal.
Interestingly, Bayern are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Guehi, so they might move for him if they lose Upamecano.
Dayot Upamecano wants Bayern stay?
Upamecano is a class defender, and the Bayern fans love him. He has been a symbol of consistency at the German club, and Bayern should strive to reach an agreement with him.
The defender has recently admitted that he is happy at Bayern and that his agent has been in talks with the German giants regarding a contract renewal. Having said that, speculations on his future will grow if he fails top sign a new deal at Bayern.
Having lost several key players in recent years, it has become vital for Bayern to keep hold of their world-class players, such as Upamecano.
