Bayern could hijack Marc Guehi transfer as Liverpool lack one key advantage

Liverpool’s pathway to signing Marc Guehi next summer may be far from unobstructed.

There have been rumours of Real Madrid’s interest in the England international. However, transfer insider Mark Brus has already made clear that this is, as of this moment, mere noise.

Another European giant in the form of Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich, however, may very well fill this void in the market.

Liverpool have been able to rest easy for now.

Guehi was on Bayern’s radar – and Max Eberl’s infamous long shortlists – but ultimately, the club’s pivot to a loans-only policy in the second half of the summer window killed its ability to complete further deals.

Christian Falk now reports that the Crystal Palace defender is an ‘interesting’ option for the Bundesliga champions.

“In defence, you have Marc Guehi – sure, the Crystal Palace centre-back is interesting. But he also would have cost money this summer,” the Bayern expert exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“With the window shut, they now want to see how the defence will perform. Now, they have to see if it works, or if they’ll want to sell Kim Min-jae.

“Guehi could be an option for the future, but on this list is also Castello Lukeba from RB Leipzig.”

Marc Guehi arrival may depend on Dayot Upamecano exit

Bayern can currently call upon Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, Kim Min-jae, and Hiroki Ito.

So, the Bavarian giants aren’t short on senior centre-back options.

However, with the French international’s contract set to expire next summer, there will more than likely be a need for at least one defensive addition in 2026.

What better for Bayern than a potential free transfer for an elite England international?

In that case, a player like Marc Guehi would be an ideal option,” Falk went on to report.

“They’ve already seen that one signing from Crystal Palace, Michael Olise, has worked out really well. So, perhaps that’s the level Bayern Munich are buying at now.”

Liverpool hold the advantage with Guehi transfer

It would, however, be naive to suggest that Bayern Munich are in pole position to complete this particular deal. Albeit the German side could yet pull on the heartstrings in aiming to reunite the Englishman with his former Palace teammate Michael Olise.

Liverpool have invested time and effort into negotiations with Crystal Palace – only to be foiled by Oliver Glasner’s late insistence on keeping Guehi.

Reports coming out of Anfield likewise suggest that the Reds will return for Marc Guehi in the next summer window.

Expect the Premier League champions to take this transfer battle seriously in light of ongoing rumours linking Real Madrid with starting centre-back Ibrahima Konate.
