Bayern have won three games in a row, but the gap could be down to three points if Dortmund win the game at home.

In recent weeks, Vincent Kompany has been boosted by the return of several key players from injury, but he could be without his first-choice keeper for the next few games at least.

Neuer has been in fantastic form this season. The 39-year-old has made 18 starts in the Bundesliga this season, and a further seven appearances have come in the Champions League.

During Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win against Werder Bremen, Neuer picked up an injury and did not return in the second half.

Bayern confirmed that Neuer has sustained a calf strain and will be sidelined for the time being.

According to Sky Germany, Neuer will be out for at least three weeks and will definitely miss the trip to Dortmund on February 28.

Bayern have reliable back-up option

While the news will come as a blow for Bayern, Kompany can still bring in a quality back-up keeper in Jonas Urbig.

The 22-year-old keeper has impressed every time he took the pitch, and many consider him a natural successor to Neuer.

It is still unclear whether Neuer will extend his deal at the club. Considering his age and legacy, Bayern will not force him to make any decision.

Urbig has made four starts in the Bundesliga this season and came on at the break against Bremen. He is likely to start against Dortmund if Neuer remains absent.
