Bayern player ratings v Flamengo: Kane phenomenal but Kompany will be furious with 4/10 flop

Bayern will now be set for their toughest test yet in the FIFA Club World Cup after securing passage through to the quarter-finals.

A 4-2 win over Brazilian outfit Flamengo books Vincent Kompany’s men a ticket to face Champions League holders PSG in the next round.

The Bavarians were ruthless from range. Both Harry Kane and Leon Goretzka found success with their shots from outside the box in the first half to ensure the German champions went into the half-time break with a two-goal lead.

The Englishman struck once more in the second half as Bayern created a flurry of chances at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Bayern are in the quarter-finals courtesy of a fantastic performance from Harry Kane.

The former Tottenham star scored twice to put himself in pole position for the man of the match award.

I asked him about the game after full-time, and he told me it was very hard to play against Brazilian defenders.

However, Bayern prevailed! Kane’s already looking forward to the match against PSG in the quarter-final in Atlanta.

He saw the Champions League final and was impressed with Luis Enrique’s men. So, they will face the best team in Europe and have an opportunity to prove that they are even better!

Here at CF Bayern Insider, we have rated the players out of 10.

Bayern player ratings

The first XI

Manuel Neuer (6.5) – Superb close-range save on the 14th minute of action after a dangerous ball fizzed across the face of goal. The save was so impressive that Joshua Kimmich was seen screaming in delight. Caught out by a powerful shot through and above his arms, and guessed wrong for Jorginho’s penalty.

Josip Stanisic (5) – Caught out on the counter a couple of times but otherwise a solid defensive display from the centre-back playing out of position at left-back with four out of six ground duels won.

Jonathan Tah (7) – Some important tackles against Flamengo. The German international never seems to look flustered, which is admirable given his recent arrival.

Dayot Upamecano (7.5) – Won all his duels and played a crucial part in setting up Harry Kane’s first goal in the opening 45 after winning the ball back high in the opponent’s half. Probably should have done more for Flamengo’s first-half goal – he failed to press De Arrascaeta, who had plenty of time and space to supply Gerson’s goal.

Konrad Laimer (6.5) – The Austrian was industrious going forward and hard-working in defence. Came close to a goalscoring opportunity at the end of the first half after some lovely interchanges with Kane and Gnabry. Most notably, won the ball back high up the pitch before Kimmich supplied Kane’s second goal.

Leon Goretzka (6.5) – Scored a sensational long-range effort to ensure Bayern went into the break two goals up. However, Goretzka lost all the ground duels he contested.

Joshua Kimmich (6) – A relatively quiet game from Bayern’s midfield maestro. However, his line-breaking pass to supply Harry Kane’s final goal of the game was a thing of beautiful simplicity. The Bayern Munich midfielder also had a small hand in the opening goal after Pulgar turned the ball from Kimmich’s corner into his own net.

Kingsley Coman (5) – Some decent crosses into the Flamengo box but otherwise a quiet afternoon offensively from Bayern’s wingers.

Serge Gnabry (4) – Even more at fault for Gerson’s goal than Upamecano. The Flamengo star lost his marker far too easily, after Gnabry had initially tracked back well to help defend a counter, before firing in his goal. Otherwise largely ineffective in the final third.

Michael Olise (4.5) – Not the Frenchman’s best game for FC Bayern. Couldn’t impact the game from the start as he had from the bench against Benfica in the group stage.

Harry Kane (9) – A phenomenal display from Bayern Munich’s offensive talisman. The England international bagged two goals, benefitting from a slight deflection with his first effort taken outside the 18-yard box. A classy finish from close range in the second half punctuated superb creative efforts from the No.9. Should have ended the clash with two assists but was let down by Leroy Sane’s finishing… again!

Substitutions

Leroy Sane (4.5) – Sane did little to show what exactly Bayern would be missing in his final game for the Bundesliga champions ahead of a permanent move to Galatasaray. Completely mistimed his shot after Kane’s cutback and then failed to pull the trigger after the Englishman slid him into the box two minutes later. The less said about his clear chance in extra time, the better.

Aleksandar Pavlovic (5) – A dependable display from the Bayern academy graduate in midfield.

Jamal Musiala (N/A) – Not enough time to impact a game that was already winding down.

Sacha Boey (N/A) – Brought on in extra time.

Thomas Muller (N/A) – Brought on in extra time.
