Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich played a crucial role in securing Vincent Kompany’s position as head coach before committing to his own contract extension.
That update comes out of BILD, via the iMiaSanMia X (formerly Twitter) account.
One of Kimmich's main concerns during the negotiations was whether the club was planning to keep Vincent Kompany in the long-term. Kimmich had been assured of that [@altobelli13, @cfbayern] pic.twitter.com/QJk5w1TyJ4

With Kimmich’s contract set to expire in 2025, speculation surrounded his future at the club with interest from Premier League teams in particular.
However, before putting pen to paper, the German international sought assurances regarding Bayern’s managerial situation.
“Joshua Kimmich made sure Bayern Munich would keep Vincent Kompany before signing his extension,” wrote the popular Bayern Munich fan account on X.
Joshua Kimmich believes in Vincent Kompany
The midfielder, a key figure in the squad for nearly a decade, has been instrumental in shaping the team’s identity and clearly believes in the coaching methods of former Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.
At 30 years old, it was a pivotal decision for the German whether he stayed or went as it would likely be his last long-term contract. The captain of the national team would have been a huge loss if he had parted ways with Bayern.

Kompany, who surprisingly took over as Bayern’s head coach in 2024, has quickly won the trust of players like Kimmich.
His endorsement signals strong squad support for the Belgian manager’s vision, who is on course to lead his team to the Bundesliga title this season.
It will be Harry Kane’s first major league title as well and having players like the Englishman around him would have surely helped make the decision on his long-term future at the club.
With Kimmich secured, attention now turns to other key players whose contracts are up for renewal, though it has been announced today that Thomas Muller won’t be one of those players.
Reports suggest that the owners felt he was getting paid too much money for a player of his age.
Premier League clubs will have to wait
With Joshua Kimmich’s future seemingly intrinsically tied to that of Vincent Kompany’s, it’s bad news for Premier League clubs’ hopes of snapping up the German international this summer.
The ex-RB Leipzig star had been linked with some of England’s top outfits, including the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
However, it seems a contract extension, coupled with the footballer’s clear admiration for our current head coach, means he’s not going anywhere in a hurry.
The only way that’s going to potentially change is if Kompany’s position becomes untenable due to poor results – but if anything, this looks a side on the rise.
